What is Dental Sedation?
Dental sedation refers to a variety of techniques used to make patients more comfortable during dental procedures. It helps patients overcome the anxiety that might otherwise prevent them from getting the dental treatment they need.
At Gloucester Dental Centre, we do everything we can to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable during their dental appointments. We offer nitrous oxide to help lessen anxiety during long or complex procedures. Our dentists are also able to provide IV sedation to patients undergoing dental extractions and bone grafts.
We will work at your pace, take breaks when you need them, and provide calm reassurance as needed.
Our dentists can help determine if a dental sedation option is right for you.
IV Sedation
IV sedatives are administered directly into the bloodstream through the vein for the deepest level of sedation without general anesthesia. We will monitor you throughout the procedure to ensure your safety. This service is only available for patients undergoing dental extractions or bone grafts with Dr. Craig.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is inhaled through the nose. The medication calms patients even though they remain awake and able to communicate. It also tends to lessen anxiety, increase pain threshold, reduce gag reflex and make time seem to pass more quickly.
